Unpopular Pop – released May 18, 2017

“Unpopular Pop,” named for the kind of catchy, to-the-point, melodic, harmony-laden, guitar-soaked music that is not particularly designed to top the charts, is Blair’s first release in 13 years. The first result of Blair’s 21st century creative renaissance, Blair played and sang most everything on it, with some serious help from Craig Northey, Ron Sexsmith, Steven Page, Mark Kelso, Simon Kendall, Sascha Tukatsch, Roger Travassos, Tim Timleck, Jenna Andrews, Kevin Fox, and Jonathan Marks.

Could’ve Been King – released 2004

Recorded in Vancouver with the Odds as his backing band, Blair (now) describes Could’ve Been King as his “midlife-crisis album.” Much more fun than that sounds, the album features “One Hit Wonder,” Blair’s story of seeing Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett (“Monster Mash”) perform in a Florida parking lot, as well as “The Opportunists,” which describes a blonde starlet, collecting her award and many accolades. On “Happy Go Lucy” (which has been adopted as the theme song for Blair’s Newstalk 1010 radio show) friend Danny Michel takes a wild, Hendrix-like solo to finish the song. The Toronto Star said the contemplative “Little Fish” is “an elegy worthy of Eliot or Beckett,” and said the album overall is “spectacular.”

Everything That’s Good – released 2000

Blair’s first post-Jitters release, Everything That’s Good was critically-acclaimed, with the CBC calling it a “’must have” for any music lover’s Christmas list. “Weird To You” (co-written with the under-appreciated Arlene Bishop) was featured in the soundtracks of many TV shows and films, and “She Just Is” (written about Arlene Bishop) ended up in the series “Dawson’s Creek.” Recorded with the help of Michael Philip Wojewoda, Everything That’s Good is a collection of thoughtful, melodic, dynamic pop songs.
